Jade is the daughter of Zheny Dimaguiba and Chinese businessman, Chen Sy. Chen is disappointed that his first-born child, is a girl instead of a hoped-for son. In Chinese culture, a first born daughter is considered a sign of bad luck, therefore Chen wanted to give Jade away to an orphanage. Full of remorse, Zheny quietly returned to the Philippines to raise baby Jade alone. Years later, Chen discovered that Zheny also gave birth to a son named Yuan, but does not know that he died after being born. Throughout the series, Jade meets Andy and Trevor Wu, brothers that both begin to develop feelings for Jade; as well as, Onyx, Jade's childhood friend. Jade is forced to pretend to be her own deceased brother, Yuan in a later incident. A scandal covering most of the media news reveals that Jade has in fact been pretending to be her deceased brother in Chen's birthday party. The scandal lead to many things that eventually settled Jade and Andy's relationship and the establishment of the successful ZhenChu Topps, a combined business between the Dimaguiba family and Andy and his mother. Whilst the story continues, a mysterious woman named Amber, enters the scene. Amber is ChenJean's newest employee and was confident that she was Chen's daughter from her mother Lorraine who coincidentally was a prostitute, her theory was proven wrong after a DNA test, and thus devoting herself to ruin Jade and Andy's relationship. Chen, Jean and Edison witnesses that their company is falling apart and going into bankruptcy forcing them to tie the knots between ZhenChu Topps, that lead to the birth of the TwinDragons. In recent revelations, in hope to clear her name, Amber threatens Jean of death forcing her to hand in an envelope that has evidences of Jean's betrayal to the company, she unfortunately runs out of time and is hit by a truck leading to her dying confession to Jade, revealing that she was behind their break-up and also hinted that Jean has been cheating the company. As the company deals with Amber's untimely death, they discover the lies that she has hidden. Jade also makes a decision concerning her relationship with Andy. Meanwhile, Jean develops a lousy obsession for gambling. After finding out of Jean's constant stop at the casino, Chen takes away all her sources of money only to find out that she is under one million pesos worth of debt, which was paid by Edison in exchange of their shares of the company. Without Chen's knowledge, Jean agrees with his condition, only to discover that Edison would not be giving back their ownership to the company. Chen decides that he wants to get a divorce with Jean, who he sent off to China whilst hearing the news that he has a tumour in his lungs and that his lifetime is numbered. Andy, after searching through his father's files, finds a way that could help the Sy family regain their shares, which is through marriage - with Jade. Chen tells Zheny that he wants a second chance with her when he comes back from China. After Onyx reveals to Andy that he knows about the arrangement, Andy becomes upset. Andy then told Jade that she should not reveal their secret to Onyx Dimalanta (Jolo Revilla) because they both agreed that nobody must know their secret. Jade then told Andy not to accuse her as the one who revealed their secret because only her mother - Zhenaida "Zheny" Dimaguiba (Ai Ai Delas Alas) knows their secret. Later on, Jade called her mother - Zheny asking her if she told someone about their secret. Andy also called his mother - Menchu Wu (Marina Benipayo) asking her if she told somebody about their secret. Menchu told her son - Andy that she never told anyone about their secret because she knows that it will be hard for them to achieve their goal. Menchu knows that Andy and Jade only pretended to be husband and wife so that they could have the majority of shares at Twin Dragon. While Zheny and Jade talked to each other at the phone, Zheny's mother - Amor Dimaguiba (Gina Pareno) heard them talking and admitted that it was her who told Onyx about their secret. Amor then told Zheny she was disappointed with her and Jade because they never included her in their conversation. Amor went to the Dimalanta family and asked to live with them. When Jade found out her grandmother, Amor went to the Dimalantas, she told her mother not to worry and that she would be the one to pick her up.
